Introducing Our New Brightening ILUMA Skincare Gems

You deserve beautiful, even toned, luminous skin—and we’re here to give it to you! We are so thrilled to introduce you to the newest members of the ILUMA family, which include the Intense Facial Illuminator and the Intense Brightening Exfoliating Cleanser. Two wonder products, they work together to give you that coveted lit-from-within glow.

Dark spots that develop from acne or prolonged sun exposure can make skin look uneven.[1] These dark spots can pop up anywhere on the body, but typically appear on the face and other commonly exposed areas like the neck, chest, and hands. If your skin is acne-prone, you might have developed acne scars from post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or perhaps even from picking at your breakouts.[2]

If you have dark spots, the ILUMA family of products can help. Thanks to key ingredients, these must-have products can help reduce the appearance of these dark spots and help make skin tone look more even. As dark spots are minimized in appearance and prominence, skin can then look more radiant as well.

What Causes Dark Spots on the Skin?

At the root of all dark spots is excess melanin production.[3] Melanin is what gives skin, hair, and eyes their color. In people with deeper skin tone, melanin production is higher. In people with lighter skin tone, melanin production is lower. Laying out at the beach or poolside under the sun can increase melanin production to make a person appear more tan. Melanin is produced to protect your skin from UV damage whenever you are exposed. Too much exposure, however, can make dark spots appear and not blend in with the rest of your skin tone. As a result, these dark spots stand out quite prominently and make skin appear uneven, dull, and aged.

Key Ingredients in ILUMA

How can you minimize the appearance of dark spots? Focus on using certain key ingredients known to inhibit the enzyme tyrosinase, which activates melanin in the skin. The inhibition of this enzyme helps to slowly but surely lighten the appearance of dark spots and make them less noticeable overall. Exfoliation is also supremely important in the fight against the look of dark spots.

Ingredients in ILUMA Intense Facial Illuminator:

The ILUMA Intense Facial Illuminator contains vitamin C and acids to help reduce the appearance of dark spots. Quite a few studies have looked at vitamin C’s ability to do this, hence why you can find this ingredient in other products with the ability to help minimize the appearance of dark spots.[4] Two other key ingredients, tranexamic and glycolic acids, can help reduce dark spot appearance thanks to their ability to increase cell turnover.[5] As dead skin cells are shed from the skin and new ones allowed to rise to the surface, dark spots are also then reduced in appearance.[6] This is called chemical exfoliation.

Ingredients in ILUMA Intense Brightening Exfoliating Cleanser:

The ILUMA Intense Brightening Exfoliating Cleanser features different key ingredients that nonetheless help support the reduction of dark spot appearance. Moreover, this cleanser contains bamboo spheres and smart sensing beads to help physically exfoliate skin and encourage dead skin cells to slough away. Certain enzymes also work to help further chemical exfoliation of skin to help promote new skin cells to rise to the surface. As you both physically and chemically exfoliate skin on a regular basis, you will notice that it begins to appear more radiant and more even.

How to Use the New ILUMA Products

Begin with the ILUMA Intense Brightening Exfoliating Cleanser. Massage it in circular motions onto wet skin for a full minute and rinse off. You can use it in the morning and evening before bed for optimal results. After gently patting skin dry, follow up by applying 3-5 drops of the ILUMA Intense Facial Illuminator onto problem areas.
